Life is Like a River

Rivers are both lovely and mysterious. Rivers are full of magic. The water flowing through it is never the same, always changing and always on the move.  Over time the river itself changes. We cannot see the deep currents below; often leading us to believe the river is gently flowing. Rivers widen, deepen, roar and soar. Rivers over flow and many dry up from lack of rain. Rivers have a current, a flow, an individual rhythm. Rivers always bore its way through the land.
Is life like a river ~ always flowing, always changing? Like the water flowing in the river, sometimes we walk steadily through life, sometimes in a hurry – surging to get somewhere, to be somebody. Other times we meander, our rhythm is slow and gentle. Life like the river offers us rocks, boulders, and pebbles. Life can sweep us gently along and sometimes the rapids come out of nowhere. Sometimes our life can feel frozen with fear, grief and worry. And then, the sun appears and sparkles down on us; asking us to dance in its warmth. Or the full moon shines down on us reminding us of God's magnificence.
Are we like rivers ~ always flowing, always changing? Can we burst our banks with gratitude? Gurgle with laughter?  Will the Spirit of love within us grow and deepen – or will it stagnate and become a river bed? Can we flow freely, and also know when stagnation occurs? Can we flow forward with courage, hope and faith?  Can we trust and enter into the deeper currents of our life? Can we rest in the deep silence of the river?  Can we trust the rhythm of our own soul?
Yes, life is like a river ~ lovely, mysterious and magical!  Give yourself permission to quiet your rapids of busyness, ease your currents of pain, and allow your soul to rest.
May you be blessed, and may others be blessed by you!!!
